June 2006

Sophie's a big sister now!  Barrett Tannon Lee was born on May 3.  He weighed 7 lb. and 6 oz. and was 19 1/2 inches long.  Six days later we were all at Sophie's Sonshine School program.  She was very brave this year, and waved at everyone from the stage!

The Saturday before Mothers' Day, Eric and Connie invited us to their home.  They surprised me with a Mothers' Day card that was to "Mom," which really pleased me!  They also gave me two pendants for a necklace.  One is a girl with Sophie's birthstone and the other is a boy with Barrett's birthstone.  They are all such a blessing to Joe and me!  I also treasure the opal ring from Joe, and opal earrings from Mike - not because of their cost, but because of the love they show.

In the past couple of months I have been able to take Sophie over to Mom's apartment three times, and she enjoyed playing games with Sophie, reading some books and helping her put a couple of puzzles together.  Sophie can just about do the 24-piece ones by herself.  Twice I took Sophie with me while I was cleaning Mom's apartment, so the two of them had some quality time together while I worked.  I have such happy memories of playing games with my Grandma Martha Culp, and I'm thankful that Sophie will have fond memories of [Great-] "Grandma Ada."

Joe enjoys playing with Sophie when she comes over.  They play with Duplos and other toys.  Joe reads to her (or she "reads" to him). Joe bought Sophie a KU T-shirt.  He will always be a KU fan!  He likes Texas Tech, but KU will always be first place.

Joe bought season tickets again this year to all of the home TT football games, and will be able to sit with Eric, Connie, Steve and Judi.  Too bad Joe's wife isn't a football fan!  (Well, maybe I'll get to watch the grandchildren!)

Joe has finished a good year of teaching at New Deal.  Now he is looking forward to teaching RIGHT HERE IN SHALLOWATER starting in the fall.  We are both so excited that this opportunity has come up.  He will be teaching Algebra 1 and 2 in the High School.  Shallowater is a nice community with a good school.  Joe already knows many people who worship with us at the 12th St. church of Christ.  He also knows several in the community.  We both think this job will be more like Eudora, and we are thanking God for this wonderful blessing!

It has already been warm enough for Sophie to play in her pool twice when she was visiting with us.  She can still fit into her swim suit from last year.  The pool I got this year already has holes in the bottom (probably from rubbing on the cement), so we got her a little bigger pool for the next time she comes to visit.  Joe told her he would get in the pool with her, so it's a good thing we got one big enough for him!  Last summer Sophie had a ball chasing Grandpa Joe around the back yard with the hose.  I'm sure they will have more fun again this year.  I think Sophie takes after her ornery Grandpa Joe!

My writing is going well.  I am publishing preschool Bible lesson books by Lisa Smith now.  She is almost done writing the third book!  She is very talented!  My orders are increasing, which is also good.  I am working on the last three chapters of Joy in the Morning, and hope to have it published by this fall.  Although we still miss Angie, we are finding joy and peace in our lives now.  We have truly experienced Psalm 30:5, "Weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning."
